PANTS OPTIONAL

February 2019

Pants Optional is a shared space and resource that encourages dialogue about the weird transitional period between adolescence and adulthood and the struggles that people don’t talk about enough.  Your 20s are hard, so think of us your friend who you can laugh, cry and always talk to.

IT'S PERSONAL WITH PANTS OPTIONAL: ...DON'T LOOK AT ME

Diets, exercise, scales, oh my! Edeliz brings back resident PO guest, Yasmeen to talk about a topic we all have an opinion on --

body image. Yasmeen dives into how living with PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) has affected her relationship with her body. Body image affects a lot of us very early on, from dieting in grade school, shaving, getting weighed at the doctor, comments from family members, the way we look from the time we're kids is something we're always aware of. As we're getting through our 20s, we have to question where our body ideals come from and who is shaping that. So let's have our cake and eat it because cake is delicious.

MY THERAPIST TAUGHT ME HOW TO SAY ‘THANK U, NEXT’ TO NEGATIVITY

Progress is not linear. Progress is hard and it takes practice. Some days are worse than others but every day is another chance for happiness. However, you have to believe you’ll make it. You have to believe in yourself, and most importantly, you have to be patient with yourself.

IT'S PERSONAL WITH PANTS OPTIONAL S1E3: FIRST GEN GUILT

This week we have Yasmeen Yahya back on the show to talk about first generation guilt and how it makes every life decision a little bit harder. First-gens have to balance independence with our parents' expectations. These expectations are usually formed around the traditional values and collective ideologies that they grew up with, and if you go against any them...then shame! Edeliz and Yasmeen discuss what first-gen guilt means to them and how they're trying to manage it. Rather than being an extension of our immigrant parents, we're working on embracing the best parts of them and becoming our own person.
